Broadway Historic District, Rock Island, IL-- The
Broadway Historic District Association announces
with regret that the 2007 Tour of Homes scheduled
for Saturday, May 19th and Sunday, May 20
has been canceled. Due to unforeseen circumstances,
several of the homeowners committed to the 2007 Tour
have had to withdraw their homes from
participation. The Association is unable to find
appropriate replacements and to conduct the needed
historic research for any replacement homes given
the very short window of time left.
Instead, the Association will focus its attentions
on the 20th Anniversary of the founding
of the Broadway Neighborhood Association. Broadway
was founded in 1988 by a group of residents whose
intent was to preserve and promote the large number
of original, mostly Victorian, homes that now
comprise the historic district. The area was
honored with placement on the National Register of
Historic Places in 1998.
The
20th Anniversary promises to be full of
surprises and special one-time-only events,
including an expanded tour in May, 2008 of new home
restorations and the opportunity to revisit many of
your favorites nestled in our beautiful Victorian
era neighborhood. Other events will be scheduled
throughout the year.
The
Broadway Historic District Association is a
501(c)(3) organization and has an elected board of
nine neighbors. Financial contributions fund
ongoing activities designed to promote the historic
character of the neighborhood and to encourage
physical improvements and renovations of its
properties.
The
Association maintains a website containing
historical and current information about The
Broadway Historic District, including additional
information on neighborhood events, activities and
contact information. Visit us at
