Tour of Homes 2006
This year, the tour featured four homes that had
never been on the Annual Broadway Historic District
Tour of Homes. The landmarked Wagner Mansion, the
fifth home on the tour has had its lower level open,
but the entire home was accessible for the 2006
tour. A sixth bonus house is a real
“work-in-progress” that is cleverly rebuilding its
missing irreplaceable historic features with modern
materials, like the scalloped Mansard roof which
looks like original slate, but is actually recycled
rubber tires.
The 2006 Annual Broadway Historic District Tour of
Homes includes The First House, a Four Square
located at 1215 20th Street, built in 1906. The Cook
House at 1230 20th Street was built in 1898. The
home at 816 20th Street was preserved in the 1970s
by the Catholic Church and until recently was used
as a services center for families in trouble. The
Hamilton House at 807 22nd Street is one of the most
unique on the tour built in a Victorian Folk style
in 1891. The above mentioned bonus house is located
at 709 20th Street. Finally, the “grand lady” on the
2006 tour is the magnificent Neo-classical house at
the corner of 9th Avenue and 23rd Street.
