VALLEY HOMES ALERT

It has come to our attention that the Rock Island Housing Authority has plans to build 39 rent-to-own units on the former Valley Homes site. This is a low income rental program with option to buy after 15 years. They also plan to extend the property to the 3 acre lot in the 2500 block of 8-1/2 Ave., along with leeling the hill that divides these properties. Greenbush Neighborhood President Mike Markell has made inquiries to RIHA about this proposed project and has found it very difficult to get his requests for information answered. RIHA has a grant request for this project before the Illinois Housing Development Authority. RIHA planned to go before our planning commission in June, but we were successful in delaying this action. Unlike other projects that take place in established neighborhoods, no effort was made on the part of the RIHA to get input from the people who will be most affected by this. Both neighborhood associations have taken steps to remedy this notification issue.

No matter if you own or rent this affects you. Please be sure we have your contact information in case immediate action is required. Had this gone to planning commission we would have had mere days to notify people about this project and the ramifications it would have for the neighborhood.

If you have additional questions on this matter, please feel free to email me Deb Kuntzi at LTMB1800@sbcglobal.net or call 309-786-3927, after 4:30.

We ask that you download and sign this petition to the Rock Island Housing Authority.  Once signed, please drop off or mail to Deb Kuntzi.

At this point, RIHA application is in Chicago in a review process to be determined in mid July, If you oppose this development please write a letter to IHDA and/or RIHA at the following addresses.  A sample letter is provided here, but please feel free to express your own thoughts on this development.
